Diabetes is often referred as diabetes mellitus, a metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia (elevation of blood sugar level/glucose concentration in blood) resulting from defects in the secretion of insulin( a hormone that is produced by beta cells of the pancreas), action of insulin, or both. Investigation of fasting and post prandial blood sugar levels is always required to diagnose the case of diabetes.
